The Danish National Vocal Ensemble saw the light of day in January 2007. The 18 singers are all soloists in various concert contexts, and when they meet in the Ensemble they pool their talents to deliver the best in choral music with harmony, energy, rhythmic suppleness and charismatic solos. That is why the Danish National Vocal Ensemble is also flexible in size: the number of members is adapted to the repertoire that is on the programme. The regular conductor of the Ensemble is Swedish Fredrik Malmberg, while English Stephen Layton is associated with the Ensemble as Principal Guest Conductor.
Michala Petri studied at the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hannover. She has performed at major festivals and in concert halls around the world, and has formed duos with Lars Hannibal and Mahan Esfahani, with whom she recorded the ICMA Award-winning album Corelli: La Follia and UK DK.
In 2006, after 30 years with the international recording companies Philips/PolyGram and RCA/BMG, she founded OUR Recordings with Lars Hannibal. Her many recordings have received numerous awards, including four GRAMMY Award nominations and four Echo Klassik Awards. In 2012 Petri was appointed Honorary Professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
